The WCKA held the 1st in a series of 3 competitions in
2008 to find their Grand Champions. Competitors from
all over South Wales turned out to stake their claim on the
Titles. With 2 more competitions left in 2008, these
competitors knew they had to start building their points to
become champions.
The day started with some awesome Lil Dragons
demonstrations. The 4 -7 year olds showing some real
potential - teams from Rhondda, Aberdare, Caerphilly,
Cwmllynfell, Merthyr Tydfil, and Pontypridd.
Cwmllynfell came out with 1st place, marginally beating the
others. All Lil Dragons went home with a winners
plaque.
While the fighters were getting warmed up, the Forms
competitors showed some great skills with Open Hand,
Bo-Staff and Kama Forms. Danielle Rouse, Rhian Rosario
& Laura Loughlin all taking 1st Place and 10 points to lead
the Title race.
Next came the Semi Contact & Light Continuous fighting
divisions. Some of the kids divisions were so full
they had to be split over 2 areas so the points were shared
out. The current leaders are Alex Sullivan (Merthyr
Tydfil), Nathan Stinchcombe (Rhondda), Conner Haren (Penlan),
Keiran Davies (Penlan), Alex Herlihy (Merthyr Tydfil), Levi
Jones (Aberdare), Paul Williams (Pontypridd), Curtis Davies
(Cwmllynfell), Thomas Jones (Gorseinon & Killay), Angharad
Morgan (Cwmllynfell), Ainsleigh McGill (Aberdare), Danielle
Chase (Pontypridd), Jessie Rosser (Gorseinon & Killay),
Megan Evans (Gorseinon & Killay), Rhian Rosario (Penlan) and
Jasper Roberts (Cwmllynfell). The challenge is not
over yet - the leaders are only 1 point ahead of their
rivals.
The Mens & Womens divisions were great to watch and the
audience just could not leave. Again some great skills
in both novice & advanced divisions with earlier leaders
being Stuart Boyce (Aberdare), Mike Kehely (Merthyr Tydfil),
Ria Male (Aberdare), Louise Newland (Pontypridd), Andrew
Llewellyn (Rhondda) and Lisa Rosser (Gorseinon & Killay).
